Our commitment to beauty from the inside out

A Touch of Beauty has a strong commitment to organic, natural products that are not tested on animals and have no negative impact on the environment.

Owner, Joanna Collins, has long been a supporter of various environmental and social causes and replicates her ethos in the salon.

Recently Joanna became aware of issues surrounding products that contain microbeads. A Touch of Beauty used one of these products and made the decision to no longer use it.

Microbeads, also called polyethylene, are tiny plastic particles that are added to a range of personal care products around the world.

The particles are mostly used in products such as face scrubs, body washes and exfoliants. These particles act as abrasives and replace more natural ingredients such as sand, walnut kernels and seeds.

These mircobeads, which are almost invisible to the naked eye, have the ability to flow straight from the drain into sewer systems.

Unfortunately, wasterwater treatments are not designed to filter out these particles and so they make their way into the ocean.

Once they settle as sediment the small pieces can be consumed by marine life. They can also attract pollutants such as oils and pesticides.

The Australian Government wants to phase-out microbeads by July 1, 2018. However, this phase-out is not legislative and companies are not bound by law to remove such products.

A Touch of Beauty will never again use or sell products containing microbeads.

The product that contained microbeads has been replaced with a natural and equally effective alternative.

A Touch of Beauty is committed to beauty from the inside out.
