Eye Spy

Stress. Let’s face it, this little number has become the buzzword of our often crazily busy lives. Mainly heard among your circle of friends or fired between colleagues, the word is somewhat of a dirty one. Stress is something that nobody wants, like a modern kryptonite.

But just like kryptonite, it seems there could be a power in flipping our definition of stress on its head and examining whether there’s any silver lining to its effects. And after that, how we can harness them for good. After all, some wise man in a Harry Potter book once said ‘There can be no light without the dark’, right? And if it’s good enough for J.K. Rowling, it’s good enough for us too.

This new product from Dermalogica landed in front of the A Touch of Beauty team a few weeks ago. This is a brand that we know and trust greatly for our own skincare, and more importantly, that of our clients, so we explored this one with great curiosity.

The eye cream, Stress Positive Eye Lift, introduced this new line of thinking: can any good come of the generally negative effects of stress? Apparently, quite a few things: stress makes you more alert, more focused, more energised. This positive side of stress is known as Eustress (derived from the Greek prefix eu-, which translates as ‘good’). But, we hear you, enough with the history lesson and more about how this eye cream will help us look a little ‘eustressed’, hey? Wink, wink.

This is a fast-acting little number, designed to energise the skin around the eye and turn back the dial on the puff factor that many of us wake up with of a morning, meaning we tend to favour this one particularly in the a.m., however, she’s none too shabby at night either, fending off dark circles and keeping the area super hydrated. It also works on making the skin’s barrier healthy (say bye to more of those little fine lines) and it does so with a mix of lovely botanical extracts and active acids found naturally in the body.

But there’s nothing nicer than the application of this product, which is designed to be massaged into the very delicate skin around the eye (and this is where we delve into the specifics of why we really do need an eye cream for this area) with the cooling metal applicator tip. This has the effect of constricting the tiny blood vessels surrounding this area, meaning your eyes will instantly de-puff a little and the bonus points round of meaning you won’t be tugging at the skin in this area, which needs extra gentle handling due to the skin not being as resilient as that of other areas.

Not only do the effects of this cream take action fast, but the product itself is long-lasting, you can still feel that your skin is hydrated in this area well into the day.

If you already have a preferred eye cream, then this one is also a perfect occasional add-on to energise the eye before an event or a day when you need to look tip top fresh. It’s then that it doubles as an eye masque.

Pop on a decent layer after cleansing, when you have 3-5 minutes to spare and simply gently wipe the excess away, massaging the rest in with the applicator for a fresh look before an event.

We’d love to have you drop in to sample this great new Dermalogica addition, or make the benefits permanent for $95. @dermalogicaAUS

EXTRA! EXTRA!

Keep that good flow going… One of our team’s other favourite ways to protect the sensitive skin around the eye area, is to use a silk pillowcase. This allows the skin to glide over as we move around at night, rather than cotton, which creates friction and tugs at it. Our favourites are here at Aussie company Slip (www.slip.com.au) in so many beautiful colours, we couldn’t stop at just one set.
