Winter Skin Care Guide

Do you really need to change up your skincare routine for winter?

If we only had a dollar for every time we’ve heard this question over the year, well, we may be somewhere tropical where our skin is happily glowing, soaking up the moisture in the air with no worries at all!

If we use that tropical island effect as an example, I’m sure you’ll begin to see fairly quickly why it’s important to add some extra steps and products into your winter skincare routine if you want to keep that hydrated glow throughout the cooler, harsher season.

In Adelaide, we live in a dry state to begin with – there’s generally a lack of moisture in the air. This means fine lines and rough skin have a good chance of rearing up, no matter the season. But add to that harsh winds, chill factor and exposure to artificially heated environments and you have yourself a recipe for some dull and irritated skin.

Ok, so here’s the rub, we have some tips for you.

Turn down the temperature of the shower
We know, we know. There’s nothing more satisfying than warming your chilled bones with a scalding hot shower in the winter time but for the sake of your skin, take it down a few notches. Especially on your face and don’t put your face directly under the water if it’s hot, use a flannel instead and give it time to cool before its application. It will lessen irritation and leave the oils your skin needs intact.

Add in a gentle exfoliant a couple of times a week
You have to get rid of that rough, dry skin that accumulates before you can begin to treat and hydrate the skin underneath. We use Sodashi’s Enzyme Facial Polish 1 to 2 times a week. It does the job without any damage to the skin barrier.

• We briefly covered the lack of moisture in the air above. If you’re extra vigilant, go in search of one of those humidifiers made for babies’ rooms to soak up the love at home. And it’s time for our winter skin saver: Sodashi Rejuvenating Concentrate Full of beautiful oils and calming and balancing ingredients (for both skin and emotions – this is the reason we love Sodashi so much – like therapy in a bottle!), make a little meditation of its application. Fill your sink or a bowl with some water warm enough to create steam, add this in and soak a cloth in it. Wring it out a little, wrap your face in it and breathe deeply. This will work wonders in restoring that moisture and combating all those signs of dryness. Bonus in that it works as an exfoliant too.

Keep a Sodashi Rejuvenating Face Mist in your bag when you’re out
If the weather is particularly unpleasant, you can use this to spritz a light layer of protective and balancing oils on your face, no matter where you are.

Time to bring out the big guns
We haven’t found any product that beats Sodashi’s Nourishing Repair Treatment for winter skin repair. Massage it in at night so the avocado, rosehip, carrot and apricot kernel oils (all big players when it comes to restorative skin help) can do their work while your cells are naturally repairing. We guarantee you’ll wake up looking fresh as a spring daisy and smelling better than one too!
